The Karma Dog Training Board and Train Program is offered in two distinct ways: Our Traditional Board and Train Program and our Reverse Board and Train Program. "Traditional" Boarding and Training is where you send your dog to us. "Reverse" Board and Train is where we send our trainer to you. *Each program comes with a Free Consultation. |
Here's how it works
Traditional Board and Train Program
Your dog will come and live in one of our trainer's home and receive daily training lessons. Your dog will be trained inside the home, outside on the street, around other dogs, at the park etc.
In between training sessions, your dog will receive ample exercise, lots of playtime, and have plenty of time to relax with canine friends throughout the day. We do NOT cage your dog under any circumstance unless specifically requested by you to do so, or if its part of a house training program that you decide upon at the Free Consultation.
When your dog returns home, you will receive FREE private in home lessons as well as FREE group classes for 6 months. The number of private lessons is dependent upon the amount of time your dog is with us. For every week your dog is with us, you will accumulate one in-home FREE private training session.
*You can also add additional private follow up sessions for an additional fee.
Reverse Board and Train Program
Our Reverse Board and Train program is where one of our Karma Dog Trainers will come and stay in YOUR home and train your dog in the comfort of your own home. This can be done while you're away on vacation or even while you're home! If you choose our Reverse Board and Train program while you're not on vacation, our trainer will come to your home in the morning and leave in the afternoon, training and working with your dog throughout the day. You can be right there watching the entire time or you can not be there at all. It's up to you!
Why is our Reverse Board and Train such an effective program? Simply put, dogs are what we refer to as "contextual learners". They learn best in relation to their own environment. In addition, with our Reverse Board and Train program, there is no adjustment period for a dog to get used to so learning takes place right away and the results happen a lot faster.
This is precisely the reason why our Reverse Board and Train program is usually a shorter program (5, 7, 10, 14 days) then our Traditional Board and Train program. Since dogs are learning in the environment where most of their "bad behavior" happens, the learning curve is shorter and less time is needed to train your dog.
Which program is better for my dog?
Both programs are designed so that your dog's receives the best education we can offer with the goal of responding to YOU when the training is completed. It is usually a one, two or three week program, but can be customized to meet your individual scheduling needs. In addition, both programs are followed by FREE private in home sessions as well as unlimited FREE group classes for up to six months.
We also offer a FREE 10-minute FaceTime, Skype, or Phone session to see which program is best for you.
What exactly will my dog learn?
Specifically, your dog will learn The 7 Requests for Success: "sit", "stay", "come", "down", "loose leash walking", "leave it" and "go to your bed". When the training has been completed, you too will also learn The 7 Requests for Success and how to integrate them into your dog's lifestyle.
Dogs who start the program already knowing basic commands are often able to progress to more advanced behaviors, such as off leash work, place command, etc. The number of behaviors which are taught in the 'Board and Train' program, are highly dependent on your dog's starting point. However, the typical dog completes a full basic training regime in this time frame. A two-week package also includes basic household 'Good Manners', including potty training, no jumping and teaching your dog to chew on appropriate chew toys.
A three-week package polishes the above behaviors and further customizes your package. We even throw in a trick or two that you request!
In addition, every dog that boards with us will experience impeccable management and comprehensive socialization. Your dog will have daily interaction and play with very balanced dogs.
One, Two or Three weeks?
The dogs that are trained longer are almost always superior in their skills and socialization than dogs that are being trained for just one week. Of course, one week with us is much better than no time at all.
But, if you are contemplating whether one, two or three weeks would be best, in most cases we will ONLY recommend the longer stay if you believe your dog can handle the separation from you. This is a huge consideration when choosing the right program for you and your dog. What's most important is that your dog feels good and at peace while with us. If your dog suffers from Separation Anxiety, the traditional board and train program may not be the right fit for your dog.
With our "Reverse Board and Train" program, this is not an issue as your dog is being trained in their own home environment.
Even though our "Board and Train" programs typically last between 1 to 3 weeks, they could be customized to be as short as 72 hours.
Making the commitment to become your dog's parent.
That's why the key to lasting success with our "Board and Train" program is the family's willingness to learn to support the new behaviors. If the family does not learn and implement the new strategies of interacting with their dog, then your dog will eventually revert to his or her original behaviors.
That's precisely the reason why we offer the FREE in-home follow up training sessions and FREE unlimited group classes for 6 months after the board and train program is completed.
Choosing our "Board and Train" program MUST come with the commitment from the family that you will practice what you've learned on a daily basis. The most critical time will be the first two weeks after your dog is home with you. That is when all private in home lessons will be scheduled.
Upon completion of the program, you will also receive a unique "user name" and "password" to the Karma Dog Training Educational Center. It's here where you will download all of the Karma Dog course materials that will support the teachings. This is a VERY important part of the process. It is during this initial time frame that we ask you to commit fully to learning everything you can from us.
Our goal is have you be totally empowered and educated on knowing exactly what it takes to get your dogs new behaviors to stick.
If you are up for the commitment, then our "Board and Train" program might be the right fit for you.

just looking for "boarding" only?
In addition, whenever your dog boards with us, you can have the peace of mind knowing that your dog is living in the home of a Karma Dog Trainer, and under the care and supervision of a Karma Dog Trainer. We do not have anyone on our staff but dog trainers, so even for regular boarding, your dog is always under the supervision of a trainer, as opposed to a regular "pet sitter".
Not only that, we strive to create a 100% cage free environment for your dog.
positive training only!
Some dog training companies who offer "Board and Train" will use anything it takes to get quick results with your dog including employing choke chains, pinch collars and shock collars. Karma Dog Training will NOT employ any kind of aversive training techniques NO MATTER WHAT.
In addition, all board and train programs are done in either our home or your home, never in a store front or facility.
